“…and his commandments are not burdensome. For everyone who has been born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith. Who is it that overcomes the world except the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God?” – 1 John 5:3-5
So what is our victory? What is it that allows us to overcome the struggles we face in this life?
John doesn’t mince words or write a theological treatise. He lays it out simply…in two words…
It’s not our strength, our knowledge, our talent, our bank accounts, our jobs, our friends or network, or even our families… it’s our FAITH.
- Faith that helps us hold onto truth when we doubt everything around us.
- Faith that helps us love in the face of pain or scorn or rejection.
- Faith that helps us turn from addictions that have plagued us for far too long.
- Faith that helps us heal when we’ve lost the one or ones we loved the most.
But what is that faith supposed to be in… Where do we find it?
The answer John says is just as simple:
Who is it that overcomes the world except the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God? – v.5
Our Faith come from JESUS CHRIST…. ALONE.
The love of God, the glory of God, shown in the flesh, God with us, Immanuel.
A message we all need and a message we should all remember to share in this season of expectation and hope.
The song below is becoming one of my new favorites this Christmas and Advent season…
“Born to suffer, born to save Born to raise us from the grave;
Christ the everlasting Lord; He shall reign forevermore…”
